Overview of RF coaxial connectors

Time:2022-01-23 09:55:31      Click:1881

Overview of RF coaxial connector: coaxial connector, (some people also call it RF connector or RF connector. In fact, strictly speaking, RF connector is not completely equivalent to coaxial connector. RF connector is classified from the perspective of connector use frequency, while coaxial connector is classified from the structure of connector. Some connectors are not necessarily coaxial, but they are also used in RF field, and coaxial connector can also be used in Low frequency, for example, the very common audio earphone plug, the frequency does not exceed 3MHz From a traditional perspective, RF refers to the MHz category. Now coaxial connectors are often used in the microwave field. In the GHz category, the word "RF" has been used all the time, overlapping the word "microwave". It is a branch of connectors. There are both commonalities and particularity of connectors. The coaxial connector has an inner conductor and an outer conductor. The inner conductor is used to connect the signal line, and the outer conductor is not only the ground wire of the signal line (reflected on the inner surface of the outer guide), but also plays the role of shielding electromagnetic field (shielding the external interference of internal electromagnetic wave acts through the inner surface of the outer guide, and shielding the internal interference of external electromagnetic field acts through the outer surface of the outer guide), This feature gives the coaxial connector great space and structural advantages. The outer surface of the inner guide and the inner surface of the outer guide of the coaxial connector are basically cylindrical - in special cases, they are often required for mechanical fixation, and have a common axis, so they are called coaxial connectors. Among several forms of transmission lines, coaxial cable is widely used because of its outstanding advantages (simple structure, high space utilization, easy manufacturing, superior transmission performance...), which leads to the demand for connecting coaxial cable, and coaxial connector is applied. Due to the advantages of coaxial structure, the continuity of characteristic impedance of (coaxial) connector (relative to other connectors) is easier to be guaranteed. Transmission interference and interference (EMI) are very low, transmission loss is small, and it is almost only used in RF and microwave fields. Because it is almost absolutely used in high frequency, it produces some electrical performance requirements different from other connectors.
